First Road Run after being sick

What an ordeal it was trying to make a decision to get outside this morning. It was overcast, with 100% humidity, at 42 degrees. Only a slight breeze. I skipped Tuesday’s run, not even considering the treadmill, because my lungs just still had too much ‘stuff’ in them.  Wednesday I was feeling even better, coughing up less crap, and this morning I felt the best so far, although still coughing stuff up more watery than globular. I had my cup of coffee, then went upstairs to get dressed.  I lay back down on the bed, thinking of the pros and cons of running this morning. The only con I could come up with was that I would be terribly disappointed in myself if I realized that I lost x amount of fitness over the last 10 days or so. I realized that if I did not get out there, I wouldn’t know, and I have that 5 mile race coming up on Sunday. I should at least try to see what’s up.  By the time I thought about all that, I had let the time get away from me, and I only left myself 30 minutes to run. *sigh*.  I dressed adequately for the weather, but still felt chilled when I stepped into the road. I was not looking forward to running around my neighborhood, as it has become really quite boring for me. I turned a podcast on and decided that I would run between a 10:00 and 10:30 pace. Just to be good to myself.

I was wearing my new Transcends for the first time outside, and I’ll have to check, but I think they are lighter than my Ravennas. At least they felt that way. My form felt good. No aches, no pains, just breathless. I felt like I was doing an 8:30, but looking down at my garmin I found I was running 10:15.  Really strange. I knew I didn’t have time to run 5 miles at that pace, so I tried to accept that I was going to take one loop around only. I had to walk a few times, but as soon as I started running again, I felt fine.  The last half mile I started coughing up a lung – so instead of trying to get 3 miles in, I called it quits and headed home. I didn’t want a relapse. Right now I feel fine, I took another mucinex which seems to work well.

I’m working this Saturday, with a date with friends for dinner. I’m not sure if I should do that race or not. I’ll re-evaluate when the time gets closer.

Baseline Neighborhood Hill Route

This is my second attempt at trying to post today. I finished it, but lost it after pulling in posts from the blogspot site. I’m going to make this a shorty, because I’ve been sitting at this desk all day again today.

I ran the same route I did yesterday, but this time did not stop to take pictures. I set the route up in Runmeter so that I can run it periodically as a hill workout to see how over the course of time my attacks on this route improve. Considering  I did not quite moderate my alcohol consumption as well as I would have liked from yesterday’s Wine Tour Extravaganza, I did not sleep well nor feel very good this morning.  The Selden trip was once again cancelled. However, I’m happy with my baseline run here in my own neighborhood with the numbers I produced, regardless.

Well, I’ve sat here for about 5 minutes trying to remember what else I blogged about this morning, and I’ve come up empty. So, I’ll sign off now, lest my feeble noggin implodes.

You should be reading this from my new Blog site. If there is anything that is not working properly, don’t hesitate to let me know.  I’m still not completely finished with it, so it is still under construction. The weather stats will be at the bottom now, as formatting for the recent posts display looks better that way.
